Video News Releases & PR Video

VNRs and b-roll packages, made by people who used to receive them.

Video news releases

A video news release (VNR) is a package of footage and often interviews that newsrooms can use in their own stories, usually b-roll and interview grabs with the details they need to run them.

We spent more than two decades in television newsrooms at 7 News and 9 News, so we know how these get used, and why plenty of them don't. Usually it's because the footage looks too much like an ad, the grabs run too long, or nobody included names and titles. We make packages a newsroom can use straight away.

What's in a package

  • B-roll. Clean, unbranded footage with natural sound.
  • Grabs. Short interview clips from your spokesperson or case study.
  • A shot list and grab sheet, with every grab transcribed and timecoded.
  • Names and titles for supers.
  • Broadcast-spec files. [Specify formats]
  • Captioned digital versions for online news and your own channels.

We can turn urgent packages around on the same day.

FAQs

What is a VNR?

It's the video version of a media release: footage, interview grabs and the information a newsroom needs to use them in its own story. Newsrooms are time poor and short on people. A VNR does the heavy lifting for them so a story can be pulled together without the chief of staff having to send out valuable resources.

Will TV stations use it?

Nobody can guarantee that. A package that's easy for a newsroom to use gives you the best chance.

How fast can you turn it around?

Same day for urgent announcements. For planned releases, we'll work around your media timing.

Do you distribute VNRs?

We can but it looks better if you do it. We can help set it up so you can knock it down.
